Impending North American Rail Strike

This Friday September 16th, the cooling off period agreed with the Railroad Unions and the White House will expire which will pave the way for a railroad strike. We are now beginning to get updates from the railroads on how they will implement a slowing down of their business to prevent an emergency overload of their systems due to a halt in services. Not all railroads have put out contingency plans, so this creates some hope. A strike for any period will be devastating for the recovering supply chains.

Of the updates we have received, the railroads will cease accepting containers for intermodal (meaning containers destined for ports or inland container depots, for example Chicago) transportation at various times this week. That will effectively halt exports from the US inland points. In addition, it will halt import containers to be put on the rail heading from the ports to inland destinations. While this will be on the mainstream press, we will keep you updated on your individual containers.

We will update you again later this week, in the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact us.
