Rail Strike Averted!!

Good News!  We don’t get to deliver that much anymore!

Late this afternoon the congress voted to impose an agreement, which was rejected by some of the rail unions, to avert a strike of the railroads.   The President will likely sign this agreement before the end of the week.

We have some concerns on how those unions and employees will respond.  Will they work slower?  It was a very active vote by the union members and so I can imagine they will be put off by being overridden.   Hopefully, this will not impact service in the long term.   One of the sticking points was that one of the major unions of Railroad employees wanted additional sick time included in their package.  The average number of paid time off days is 25-29, so it appears overall they are treated quite fairly.  Their overall package is among the top 10% of compensation among industries.
