US East Coast Port Strike Suspended – Update #7

We are pleased to confirm the initial press reporting covering a suspension of the strike action of the International Longshoreman Association.  The workers of the ILA have been on strike since Tuesday October 1.

The strike will end immediately, and the port workers will resume their work.

This is a tentative agreement regarding wages.  The union will suspend their strike actions and continue negotiations to resolve the balance of issues.   The tentative agreement is in place until January 15, 2025.

Following is the joint statement by the ILA and the USMX (carrier and port group, effectively the ’employer’)

Joint Statement Regarding Master Contract “The International Longshoremen’s Association and the United States Maritime Alliance, Ltd. have reached a tentative agreement on wages and have agreed to extend the Master Contract until January 15, 2025, to return to the bargaining table to negotiate all other outstanding issues. Effective immediately, all current job actions will cease, and all work covered by the Master Contract will resume.”

There will be delays as the ports begin to ramp up and catch up with the backlog created by the short-term strike action.

We have confirmed these reports with two carriers in the USMX.

Please reach out with any specific questions.
