US-UK Trade Agreement
You have no doubt heard the mainstream media reports about the trade deal reached with the United Kingdom. We want to provide you with a clear understanding of the actual impact to you. Right now, no change to any of our client base. You can stop reading here or continue for the details.
- The 10% Reciprocal tariff rate remains unchanged. Most Imports from the UK fall under this tariff.
- The US and UK will negotiate an “Alternative Arrangement” to the current section 232 tariff on Aluminum and Steel. This currently stands at 25% for effected products. Our opinion is this means that number will decrease, but that has not yet been stated.
- The Trade deal expands U.S. Market access in the UK, which will reportedly create a $5 billion dollar opportunity for new exports for U.S. farmers, ranchers and producers.
- For vehicles, the first 100,0000 UK vehicles imported into the US by UK car manufacturers each year will be subject only to the reciprocal rate of 10% and any additional vehicles will be subject to the 25% rate. (So, if you are in the market for a Jaguar, Aston Martin or Land Rover – buy early!!)
- Refer to the White House Fact Sheet (which is not linked here for security reasons) for more information. There is also a Truth Social post which provides some additional trade highlights from the bilateral agreement.
For most of you, right now, no change. We will be watching and informing you as soon as more is revealed and announced about the alternative arrangement for the current section 232 tariff on Aluminum and Steel.
Have a nice weekend and a very Happy Mother’s Day to all of you Moms! We salute you!
