Yantian Port Update

The major Southern China base port of Yantian, located in Shenzhen, temporarily suspended operations due to the Covid-19 outbreak reported that affected the terminal from May 25th.
Although, the terminal has resumed operations, the backlog of laden containers waiting to export has caused substantial congestion which has impacted operations as below:

The terminal is starting to receive laden containers again, but the backlog has affected how early containers can be returned and accepted for export. Below are the current indications:

• Yantian Terminal, currently accepting export-laden containers, however containers will only be accepted with ETA-3    (that are within three days of the vessel’s ETA to Yantian, not the ETD from Yantian).
• Shekou Terminal, currently accepting export-laden containers, however containers will only be accepted with ETA-5 (that are within five days of the vessel’s ETA to Yantian, not the ETD from Yantian).
• These timelines indicated above are in place until June 6th and are subject to change.

This situation at Yantian Terminal has also affected other key points in the supply chain as per below:

Sailing Schedules:
- Due to this situation, sailing schedules will be impacted as it will affect the arrival and intended departure of vessels.
- Some carriers have advised that they will omit calling on Yantian to avoid further service disruptions and delays.

Land situation:
- The inland transport services to and from the terminal have been great impacted by this situation and causing heavy traffic congestion.
- Picking up of empty containers and delivery of laden containers is greatly delayed as waiting time is up to 10 hours in some cases.

Empty Containers:
- Reduction of incoming containers has limited the available containers for export.
